'Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel 'Holy Grail' For Writing Duo

Although we still have several months to wait before we see Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the ball is already rolling behind plans for the film’s sequel and its May 2, 2014, release date.

The first film’s screenwriter, James Vanderbilt, penned the first draft of the sequel’s script, but it was announced Tuesday (April 24) that Sony has hired the prolific writing duo of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to rewrite the script.

“We grew up as huge Spider-Man fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail,” Kurtzman and Orci said in a statement. “We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this legendary franchise.”

Kurtzman and Orci are no strangers to penning blockbusters: They wrote “Star Trek” and its yet-untitled sequel (along with Damon Lindelof) for director J.J. Abrams, “Transformers,” “Cowboys and Aliens” and “Mission: Impossible III.”

“Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write great character and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for Spider-Man,” producer Matt Tolmach said in a statement. “They’ve been friends of ours for a long time, and they have an exciting take on the franchise — we’re thrilled to have them join the Spider-Man family.”

“It’s a thrill to have Alex and Bob put their stamp on this franchise that we all love so well,” producer Avi Arad added. “They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero, but a hero for all of us.”

When they’re not busy writing blockbuster films, Kurtzman and Orci serve as executive producers on the upcoming sci-fi fantasy “Ender’s Game,” “Now You See Me” and “Hawaii Five-O.” They also wrote the upcoming drama “People Like Us,” which is Kurtzman’s feature directorial debut.

The event, held at Lincoln Center in NYC, celebrates TIME?s 100 list, which honors the 100 most influential people in the world and along with musical performances also featured a keynote address from Hillary Clinton.

The sexy pop star is set to perform at the gala tonight along with R&B star Raphael Saadiq, and she tweeted to her followers before heading out for the event, ?Mumz surprised me for #TIME100? posting a picture with her mommy, Fenty.

She also received praise from designer, Stella McCartney in the Time’s 100 most influential people issue while she stated, ?Rihanna goes out of her way to support the people she believes in. She is one of the few people I know in that world of fame and celebrity who aren?t all about themselves. She?ll give a real part of herself to an ordinary person she may meet, and that?s rare.”

Dear Barbz, your leader has returned. After a nine-day Twitter hiatus, Nicki Minaj has come back to the social networking site — minus several million followers, however.

It was April 15 when Nicki drove her legion of fans crazy by disappearing from the site on which she was among the most popular in the world. “A voice in my head told me to delete my Twitter and that’s what I did,” Minaj said during an interview in the U.K. “I had 11 million followers and I hope they will wait for me.”

At press time, Nicki had 125,000 followers after only a short time back, but it’s a safe bet that number will grow exponentially within the coming days. All of Nicki’s pervious tweets seem to be intact, minus the few that she sent right before she pulled the plug on her handle. “Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f—king bye,” she wrote before vanishing from the social networking site.

Minutes before she stepped away from Twitter, the Young Money star got into a digital dust-up with a fan site that she accused of posting illegal music. Because of the short time that elapsed between the beef and the deletion of her account many assumed that the incident was the deciding factor in Ms. Minaj’s choice to leave — not the case, she says.

“Let’s set the record straight because a lot of times I don’t speak on things, but I don’t want people to think that’s why I deleted my Twitter,” she told Capital FM in the U.K. “I just needed a moment to myself. Because some page posted things about me — I mean, I’ve read horrible things about myself. I wouldn’t delete my Twitter over that.”

Nicki hasn’t yet tweeted since rejoining the social network, but we’re guessing it won’t be long until she greets her Barbz.

T.I. has been involved in his fair share of rap beef. From Lil’ Flip to Ludacris to Shawty Lo, Tip has held his own against some pretty serious dudes, but when it comes to the attacks from rookie female MC Azealia Banks, the Trouble Man wants no part of it.

Banks took exception when T.I.’s new artist Iggy Azalea landed the 2012 XXL Freshman cover earlier this year. The Harlem rapper had no problem lashing out at Iggy via Twitter, and when Tip defended his new protégé on DJ Drama’s radio show in March, Banks fired shots at the King too.

“[Banks] wasn’t the only one who felt funny about it. It was a trending topic people felt so funny about it,” Iggy told MTV News earlier this month about her inclusion on the Freshman list.

Iggy wasn’t chosen to be on XXL’s coveted cover by the staff outright, instead she won a people’s choice vote held on the magazine’s website. The Australian-born rapper beat out 49 other rookie MCs to earn her spot along other notables like French Montana, MGK and Future. “Out of all those people, I had the most fans, it’s not my fault. You should’ve voted for who you wanted because everybody else did and not to be rude, it was me.”

T.I., however, hasn’t been so diplomatic in his response. “The fact that she’s speaking up on me and mine, I didn’t even see it,” he said about Banks when he appeared on the “Tony Sculfield and the Morning Riot” radio show in Chicago on Monday morning (April 23). “That’s a bitch sh—, I’ma man. You ain’t got no business addressing me. Get your man to address me, if you got a man, get him to address me and he and I can speak on it.”

It doesn’t seem like Banks, whose video for her single “212” is fast approaching 12 million views on YouTube, has taken heed. “@tip T.i …. Please shut the f—- up about this. Like seriously quit it,” she tweeted hours after the Grand Hustle CEO’s interview aired.

Banks continued with a full-on Twitter rant. “@tip funny how you have plenty of time to address me but have nothing to say to the dudes who been calling u at as a snitch forever,” she wrote. “@tip it’s dead… The streets already know what kind of dude you are. Stop making yourself look softer by dragging this out.”

She then proceeded to delete all of T.I.’s songs from her iTunes. “LMFAOO every time I delete a t.i. song from my iPad I imagine him dying in some bloody horror film like being eaten by a zombie,” she wrote.

'Think Like A Man:' The Reviews Are In!

Critics agree the cliché and ‘disposable’ plot is strengthened by its ensemble cast.

The story line for “Think Like a Man” is nothing groundbreaking. Every rom-com touches on men wanting sex and women wanting a man to sweep them off their feet — with both unsatisfied until everything is tied into a neat bow in the last five minutes.

Based on the Steve Harvey book “Act like a Lady, Think like a Man,” the film follows a group of men who realize their relationships are being infiltrated by Harvey’s self-help book. The women are highlighting away at the pages and using every tactic to get what they want out of their affairs. And while many critics claim the movie looks more like an infomercial, what saves the film is the ensemble cast of attractive, talented actors — Michael Ealy, Meagan Good, Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson and Regina Hall, to name a few — who deliver mild lines with wit and perfectly hit the punch lines of every joke.

It remains to be seen whether “Think like a Man” will knock “The Hunger Games” off its box-office throne this weekend, but as the reviews pour in, it’s looking promising.

The Story
” ‘Think Like a Man’ is a romantic ensemble comedy — an excessively populated and chatty two-hour one — spun from comedian and syndicated radio host Steve Harvey’s 2009 self-help relationship bestseller ‘Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man’…The fact that the movie adaptation uses just the latter half of Harvey’s book title is your first clue to its slant. It centers around a fraternity of six friends — each designated in the intro as a particular ‘type’ (as per Harvey’s book) — who regularly meet to play basketball, drink and talk about women. Four of them discover that the women they are involved with (who are also ‘types’) are applying Harvey’s wisdom to the relationship dynamic, so the men study up and turn the game to the home-team advantage for what amounts to a temporary fix.” — Jennie Punter, The Globe and Mail

The Ensemble Cast
“Forget hackneyed clichés about Players and Dreamers and the scheming women who seek to domesticate them. Focus on the pleasures of watching a group of gifted actors spar and seduce each other with genuine warmth, and ‘Think Like a Man’ just might go straight to your head.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

“These 30-something folks, comfortable in their circumstances and their skins, are allowed to be smart of heart if baffled by the 21st-century courtship game. Lane Garrison Slapping Ashley Mattingly: Caught on Tape!

A new surveillance video obtained by TMZ shows Lane Garrison slapping Ashley Mattingly across the face after he waited for her outside her apartment.

Lane was arrested for domestic violence Saturday, but denied hitting his ex, saying he put his hands on Ashley’s shoulders, put her in a chair, and left.

Not exactly the case, according to the surveillance video:

The former Prison Break star claimed that he ran into his ex while visiting someone else’s apartment, too … but he appears to be sitting outside waiting for her.

When Ashley drives into the building’s garage, Lane is seen stumbling as he runs after her. They are then seen walking into the building together.

Clearly arguing as they get into an elevator, Ashley seems to be asking Lane to leave, but when he refuses, she gets off … and all hell breaks loose.

In the apartment lobby outside the elevator, Lane is seen grabbing Ashley’s arm with his left hand … and then slapping her face with his right.

After a few more seconds of struggling, Lane bolts. He can then be seen throwing what may be Ashley’s phone into the street, then leaving for good.

Garrison was arrested for felony domestic violence and is being held on $50,000 bail. He is on a parole hold because of his manslaughter conviction.

With just six days left on his parole (he killed a teenager in a DUI five years ago), he could face additional prison time based on this arrest.

It remains to be seen if he will face charges from this in the long run, but his initial defense certainly isn’t helped by what the video shows.

After a few months of will-she-or-won’t-she debate as to whether Lindsay Lohan would actually appear in a made-for-TV biopic about Elizabeth Taylor, we finally have confirmation that she will officially take on the role of the Hollywood icon in the Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick.”

According to the network’s official announcement obtained by Deadline, the story will revolve around the torrid and headline-grabbing romance between the blue-eyed beauty and Hollywood leading man Richard Burton. The two megastars were the original Brangelina, and their tempestuous relationship was the most infamous celebrity love affair of its day.

“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in the statement. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

This isn’t the first time Lohan has portrayed a legend. She’s done a few Hollywood pinup-inspired photo, including her Marilyn Monroe-esque photo shoot for Playboy, which garnered record sales when she graced the cover.

“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming for Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

Principal photography on the movie will begin in early June in Los Angeles.

Justin Bieber went on a bit of a Twitter spree over the weekend, telling his millions of followers that it was time for a “RANDOMTWITTERHOUR.”

While many of his tweets relayed innocuous thoughts on topics like Chuck Norris’ pajamas, his feelings about the content of fruit salad and how his track “Boyfriend” is really about the migration of birds, there was one tweet in particular that stands out.

At the end of his “Random Twitter Hour,” Bieber had this message for Mariah Yeater, the California woman who accused Bieber in late 2011 of being her baby’s father. “And now #RANDOMTWITTERHOUR has come to an end….last one….,” he wrote. “Dear mariah yeeter [sic]…we have never met…so from the heart i just wanted to say…”

He then tweeted to an audio link from the 2006 film “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” in which Borat says, “You will never get this, you will never get it, la la la la la la. He behind his cage. He cries, he cries and everybody laughs. She goes, ‘You never get this.’ But one time he break cage and he ‘get this’ and then we all laugh. High five!”

Bieber wasn’t lying about his tweets being random as there hasn’t been any news on the Yeater/paternity front since late November when Yeater promised to submit her son for a paternity test, despite the paternity suit having been dropped. The tweet does stay on message with Bieber’s denial that he had anything to do with Yeater or her baby.

The pop singer maintained his position on the paternity accusation during the entire process, even taking his own DNA test to prove that he wasn’t the baby’s father. “As far as the whole baby situation, it’s unfortunate that it had to happen like that,” he said in an interview at the height of the allegations. “People make false accusations, but things happen in this industry, and you have to keep your head high and be positive.”

The Barbadian beauty took to Malibu, CA this weekend (April 21) while getting all glammed up for her very first photo shoot for the popular fashion magazine.

According to a source on the scene, the “We Found Love” songstress made a midday arrival while spending about an hour and a half getting her hair and make-up done while perched inside her eco-friendly ‘Verde’ trailer.

As for the photo shoot location, Rihanna and the Harper’s crew were situated at a picturesque Malibu canyons ranch with the main house having been built from an old Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

Putting in the long hours to get things just right, the 24-year-old finally finished up her efforts around midnight before heading back home.

New York dancer gives MTV News his professional opinion on how authentic the ‘Magic Mike’ trailer is.

Bachelorette parties, beefy dudes and dollar bills — oh my! It must mean that the “Magic Mike” trailer dropped.

And, yes, the trailer is filled with lots of Channing Tatum goodness — read goodness as: he’s shirtless, a lot — as well as cameos from fellow hunks Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer.

The trailer follows the story of Tatum’s character, Magic Mike, as he tries to balance his life as a stripper with a budding romance and his dreams of designing furniture. It seems that the Steven Soderbergh-directed flick, which opens in June, will have lots of heart and lots of laughs.

Now, after watching the trailer several (hundred) times, MTV News decided to track down a real-life male stripper to rate just how authentic it really is. Here’s what we learned.

The Bachelorette Party
“The bachelorette party, the whole thing is totally legit,” New York-based dancer Steve Stanulis, who goes by the stage name Steve Savage, told MTV News about the trailer’s opening scene. “I mean, with the guys coming in as cops and the girls, like, getting all nervous. So, that’s pretty authentic. It looks pretty good.”

The Money
“The whole thing with the singles? The funny thing is when I used to go to the bank, they’d be like ‘Oh, my god. Why do you have $500 in singles?’ ” Savage, who runs Savage Men and helped create “Stripped, The Play,” recalled of hitting the bank after a night of dancing like Magic Mike. “And that would be like the ongoing joke.”

The Dancing
“The show looks pretty good, the guys dancing and the whole shtick with each guy coming out with a different routine,” he said of several teased strip-club scenes that feature McConaughey and Tatum getting their shirtless grooves on. “They’re a little overly elaborate, with all the smoke and spinning, but again that’s not something you would really see. I mean we’re not going to see Fosse. I mean, they did a great job. All the guys look great as well. They’re totally believable as dancers.”

The Relationships
“The whole rigmarole, as far as being in a relationship and being a stripper, 95 percent of the comments of the girlfriends or the significant others give are like, ‘When are you gonna give this up? When are you gonna get a real job?’ or what have you,” he said of Tatum’s onscreen love interest, Paige, played by Cody Horn. “So, they really captured that as well, which is really funny.”

The Ambition
“I also like the fact that he’s talking about being an entrepreneur because all these guys, well most of these guys, are not just strippers, they’re doing other things,” he explained of Tatum’s dream to make furniture for a living.

The Bottom Line
So, will Savage see the flick? “I would definitely go see it,” he said. “I would def recommend it. It looks good.”

Taylor Swift To Play Joni Mitchell?

Country superstar is linked to the role in the film adaptation of Sheila Weller’s book ‘Girls Like Us.’

It turns out voicing Audrey in “The Lorax” and playing a shallow, high school cheerleader in “Valentine’s Day” were just the opening roles in Taylor Swift’s budding acting career. The Grammy-winning artist is linked to the role of Joni Mitchell in the film adaptation of Sheila Weller’s book “Girls Like Us,” Variety reports.

The biography maps the lives of three of the most influential female musicians in America: Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell. In an attempt to capture the life of women in the 1970s, Weller tells these artists’ three unique stories. King is the daughter of a middle-class New York family, living in one of the city’s outer boroughs. Simon is the product of Manhattan’s intellectual elite. Mitchell’s grandparents were Canadian farmers.

When MTV News spoke to Swift in March, she told us acting has always “fascinated” her. The role of Mitchell sounds like a part she would want to take on.

“I love the idea that you can tell a story in that way,” the singer gushed. “I’ve been reading scripts for about five years. In my free time, that’s all I do is read scripts.”

But she isn’t in a rush to choose just any role. “I just want to make decisions really carefully. I think, with movies, it’s really important that you have to love something so much that you cannot think about anything else,” she continued. “If you’re going to become someone else, that’s a huge deal. That’s a huge commitment, and I would want to have the time and the ability and the love for something and the love for a character to where I could really make that commitment to it.”

Swift would certainly have some of the background knowledge it takes to play Mitchell, being a musician herself. While Sony Pictures has not made Swift an official offer, other actresses have already auditioned including Alison Pill (“Midnight in Paris”) — for the role of King. Variety also reported that Katie Jacobs, executive producer of “House,” is directing the script penned by John Sayles, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura is set to produce. The biopic is still waiting to be green-lit, but the tentative start of production is later this year.
